About The Stokes-Turner Connection
TO ALL RELATIVES WHO HAVE VIEWED THIS SITE BEFORE - PLEASE E-MAIL ME FOR PASSWORD
This tree is quite large due to the fact that I have traced most bloodlines from both
of my parents over the last 25 years. I am also committed to tracing descendants of
the earliest known ancestor of each bloodline - hence the large number of names.
Where relatives have supplied extra data, they have also supplied full references and
sources and nothing appears here that can not be verified by an independent
researcher. This tree has been updated on 26th November 2009 to take account of many
new descendants who have been traced. To safeguard the privacy of others who have
contributed valuable information, all access to this tree is now by invitation to
known family members only. One or two weird things have happened to some of the notes
and sources during the recent upload, so while I am correcting these, please contact
me if any documentation or source is not clear and I will furnish you with the
correct references.
STOKES-TURNER is just a convenient shorthand for my family tree. STOKES and TURNER
are the names of my parents, so all things naturally begin with them. Large sections
of my tree are devoted to:
STOKES (Origins in Cheadle, Cheshire early 18th century)
TURNER (Origins in Denton, Lancashire late 18th century)
PRIDGEON (Origins in Helpringham & Wellingore, Lincolnshire 18th century)
WALTON (Origins on Derbyshire/Leicestershire border 17th century)
LINDOE (Origins in Norfolk, early 17th century)
SIDDALL (Origins in Withington/Fallowfield 16th century)
VALENTINE (Origins in Ringley/Eccles area, Lancashire late 18th century)
PIGOT (Origins in Peplow, Shropshire 17th century - but see Evan PIGOT of Nantwich)
I owe certain debts of thanks to several people who have provided or exchanged
information, and I wish to make the following acknowledgements:
1) After years of wondering if I would ever 'meet' the cousin in America who had
provided so much help on the Walton side of my tree, I am delighted that through the
Lost Cousins site Gayle Judd and I are now in touch, and Gayle has done me the honour
of visiting this site to learn more about her English cousins. Gayle - you know how
much I am indebted to you, so welcome aboard and enjoy digging around here.
2) To Lisa Campbell and Jack Lindoe for providing invaluable information on my Lindoe
family of Barton Bendish, Norfolk - and saving me a trip to Norwich - you are stars,
the pair of you!
3) To Judy Jones who back in the 1990s exchanged much information with me regarding
the Stokes family of Cheadle. We were able to help each other with vital research.
4) To Bill Carey in Canada, who provided information regarding some descendants of
the Stokes family, and helped to fill out family details of Herbert Stokes.
5) I must add my thanks to Mark Pridgeon - my third cousin in Cardiff - for providing
information on descendants of William Pridgeon and Alice Johnson.
6) My third cousin, Del Parker in Queensland, has kindly
supplied details on the descendants of Rachel Valentine and James Dean. Thank you
Del, for all your work on the Deans. Thanks also to another third cousin, Sandra
Horne, for supplying me with beautiful additions to my private collection on the
Valentine/Dean family in Australia.
7)I want to add my very humble thanks to my 4x great grandmother Mary
Pigot, for having the decency to die after civil registration in Audenshaw, thus
opening the biggest door I've ever found during the last 25 years. On 28th August
2009 at the Liverpool Record Office I was able to confirm her maiden name as HUDSON.
She has earned my undying thanks for being the key that has unlocked the Pigots.
8) A special thanks must go on this first page to my distant cousin Ron Bennett -
connected through the Siddalls via the Makins. The Makins became a runaway sub-
branch in this tree from a known bloodline - along with the Smalls, and the Jervises.
I am thankful to Ron for his beautiful photos of
our Makin/Wyatt girls. Ron is the great grandson of Mary Alice Makin (born in 1848).
9) It proved a very happy Christmas for me when a 'new' fourth cousin, Maurice
Stokes, got in touch with me and kindly provided details of the marriage bond he had
discovered at Chester Record Office for John Stoakes and Susannah Chandley - the
progenitors of our Stokes line in Cheadle. I owe Maurice 25 years of gratitude for
this wonderful discovery that has identified our Susannah after so long.
10) AND JUST FOR FUN! There is a line by marriage from my Pigot family that leads to
the only Royal House worth mentioning.... Several Pigot cousins are descended from
this family - alas, most of us are not... but it explains certain family loyalties!
If I have forgotten to thank anyone, and you think I should, please e-mail me.
Thanks for visiting The Stokes-Turner Connection.
